David Kohn

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

The quality of our lives is deeply shaped by the quality of our relationships—both past and present. Many long-standing difficulties trace back to early relational wounds, often formed in the context of our most important caregiving relationships. When these experiences remain unresolved, they can quietly shape how we relate to others and to ourselves, contributing to loneliness, anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, or enduring patterns that feel hard to change.

Working with me is less about treating a specific diagnosis and more about understanding the relational landscape that makes up your inner and outer world. Rather than applying a formula or protocol, I see my role as something closer to a guide: walking alongside you as we move through the less familiar terrain of your mind. At times, this inner world may feel like an uncharted forest—dense, confusing, or overwhelming. My job is not to tell you where to go, but to help you slow down, notice what’s there, and find clearer paths forward together.

We explore not only your relationships with other people, but also your relationship with yourself, your body, your past, your work, your medications, and your broader community. As we make sense of these connections, new perspectives often emerge—ones that can lead to greater clarity, emotional freedom, and a more meaningful, well-related life.

My style is calm, containing, and generally gentle. I take a largely open, non-directive stance, trusting that what needs attention will surface in its own time. When it does, I help you reflect, consider different perspectives, and deepen your understanding. At times, I may gently question assumptions or offer tentative hypotheses—not as judgments or instructions, but as invitations to see yourself more clearly.

I typically don’t tell you what to do or give advice. Instead, I walk alongside you as you explore your inner world, helping you notice patterns, make sense of what you encounter, and find your own way forward. If you’re looking for a space to slow down, reflect, and develop the capacity for deeper, more meaningful, and more satisfying relationships with yourself and others, then working together may be a good fit.
